Dennis Kolar has 43-plus years of experience in the road business, including 38 years with the Road Commission for Oakland County.
He was appointed managing director effective January 2, 2012, by the Board of Road Commissioners.
Previously, he served as deputy managing director/county highway engineer since 2005 after having held a variety of other executive-level positions with the agency.
Prior to joining RCOC, Kolar worked for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).
He is a registered professional engineer and a graduate of Lawrence Technological University.

Kolar is a member of the Board of Directors and past president of the County Road Association of Michigan (CRA), a member of the Board of Directors of the Traffic Improvement Association of Michigan and past president of the Intelligent Transportation Society of Michigan. He is a member of the American Public Works Association and the Transportation Research Board, where he served eight years on the Maintenance and Operations Management Committee.
