2022 Road Construction Project List
A list of 2022 Road Commission for Oakland County major road construction projects (list is subject to changes). Additional information on preservation overlays, concrete slab replacements and spot resurfacing will be listed on the Road Projects page in 2022.

10 Mile Road, Meadowbrook to Haggerty Road (2022-23)
In 2022 and 2023, 10 Mile Road, from Haggerty to Meadownbrook Road, will be resurfaced. Project also includes culvert replacements and watermain installations. Numerous safety improvements are part of the project.

14 Mile Road, Barrington to Dequindre Road
14 Mile Road from Barrington to Dequindre Road is scheduled for rehabilitation and resurfacing work starting late in 2022 with completion in 2023. In addition to resurfacing, the project includes drainage improvements, watermain replacement, traffic signal upgrades, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps and repairs to curbs and gutters

Adams Road COMPLETE
In 2021, Adams Road from Long Lake Road to Square Lake Road in the City of Troy will be resurfaced along with improvements to drainage, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalk ramp upgrades, and traffic signal replacement. The remainder of the project will be completed in 2022.

Avon Road, Dequindre to 23 Mile Road
Starting in the fall of 2021, improvements will begin on the Avon Road corridor, from Dequindre Road to 23 Mile Road on the Oakland/Macomb County border. Work includes replacing the Avon Road bridge over the over the Clinton River. Roundabouts are expected to be constructed at Avon/23 Mile Road and Avon/Dequindre Road. Additionally, a three-lane road, with a continuous center left-turn lane, will be constructed between the roundabouts. Improvements will address congestion, safety concerns and pedestrian accessibility while minimizing impacts on historic areas and natural features.

Cass Lake Road Culvert Replacement
In 2022, the Road Commission for Oakland County will remove and replace the culvert under Cass Lake Road that carries the Cass Lake/Otter Lake Canal. The project includes Waterford Township watermain relocation work in the winter of 2022. Both projects will require require road closures.

Concrete Repairs
RCOC is planning concrete slab replacement on several roads throughout Oakland County in 2021.

Cooley Lake Road Culvert Replacement
In the summer of 2022, Cooley Lake Road will close just west of Carroll Lake Road for the removal and replacement of two culverts under the road. The approximate $1.8 million project is funded with combination of federal road funds and R.C.O.C. dollars.

Currie Road
During 2022, Currie Road will be reconstructed including paving the gravel road with asphalt. The 2022 project also includes roundabout construction at the intersections of Currie Road and Eight Mile Road and Currie Road and Nine Mile Road. In 2021, Currie Road from Nine Mile Road to 10 Mile Road was paved with asphalt.

Elizabeth Lake Road Roundabouts-White Lake Township
In 2022, the RCOC in partnership with White Lake Township, will construct single lane roundabouts at the intersections of Elizabeth Lake Road and Teggerdine Road and Elizabeth Lake Road and Oxbow Lake Road intersections. Both projects will improve intersection safety.

Fish Lake Road Culvert Replacements
In 2022, Fish Lake Road just south of Grange Hall Road will close for the replacements of two culverts. The culverts carry the Shiawassee River and the Patterson Holly Drain.

Hatchery Road Bridge Replacement over the Clinton River
In 2022, the Hatchery Road bridge will be removed and replaced over the Clinton River in Waterford Township.

High-Friction Surface Treatment
The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) continues to be a leader in safety and will once again use a “high-friction surface treatment” to improve traction on two curves on roads in Oakland County. In 2021, Clarkston Road from Thistle Valley Lane to Pine Tree Road and the Baldwin/Indianwood Road roundabout will benefit from the treatment.

Independence Township Road Improvement Millage
In 2018, voters in Independence Township approved a millage for road improvements. The Road Commission for Oakland County continues to work closely with use of those dollars starting in 2020.

Joint Repair Program
Road Commission for Oakland County will be repairing joints on several roads throughout Oakland County during 2022. A list of roads scheduled for joint repair is listed on the page.

Maloney Street Bridge Replacement
In 2022, the RCOC will replace the Maloney Avenue bridge in Oxford Township.

Mann Road Culvert Replacement and Repaving
In 2022, Mann Road from Clintonville Road to Floretta Street on the Independence Township and Waterford Township border will close for culvert removal and replacement. The culvert carries Sashabaw Creek.

Maple Road, Coolidge Highway to Dequindre Road
Maple Road, from Coolidge Highway to Dequindre Road, in the communities of Clawson and Troy, will be resurfaced in 2022. The road will remain open to traffic with lane closures during the work.

Novi Road (9 Mile to 10 Mile Road)
In 2022, Novi Road, from south of 9 Mile Road to north of 10 Mile Road, will be resurfaced. The project includes the removal and replacement of three culverts under the road. During the culvert work, this section of Novi Road will close to through traffic. Local access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the project. During the resurfacing phase of the project, Novi Road will remain open to southbound traffic only.

Orchard Lake Road Culvert (Farmington Hills)
In 2022, a culvert under Orchard Lake Road just north of 10 Mile in Farmington Hills will be removed and replaced.

Orchard Lake Road, Middlebelt to Old Telegraph-2022
Orchard Lake Road, from Middlebelt to Old Telegraph Road, will be rehabilitated in 2022. During the work, traffic will be maintained (one lane in each direction). Work is expected to begin in June and conclude late September.

Orchard Lake Road (Commerce to Middlebelt ) 2023
The project is funded for 2023, more information will be available late 2022.

Orchard Lake Road, 13 Mile to 14 Mile Road
In 2022, Orchard Lake Road from 13 Mile Road to 14 Mile Road will be rehabilitated. Project includes the construction of a roundabout south of 14 Mile Road, removal of road and replacing with asphalt, concrete sidewalk, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant pedestrian crossing upgrades, drainage improvements and concrete curbs and gutters.

Permit Work and Short-Term Road Closures
Occasionally, the RCOC will close a segment of road for weekend heavy maintenance work. Typically, this work involves replacing culverts which is weather-dependent work, so the schedule could change.

Pontiac Trail, Haggerty to Green Lake Road
In 2022, Pontiac Trail from Haggerty to Green Lake Road in West Bloomfield Township will be reconstructed.

Simple Resurfacing (Preservation Overlays)
Preservation overlays are being done on heavier traveled roads throughout Oakland County. Typically involves placing 2 inches - 2.5 inches of new asphalt. Roads selected have to be in moderately good shape for this process to work.

Spot Resurfacing Program
Spot resurfacing is milling (grinding pavement) and paving sections of heavier traveled roads throughout Oakland County. The asphalt paving is weather, equipment and material dependent. This page provides a list of roads that will receive this heavy maintenance technique.

Subdivision Paving (Special Assessment District)
Subdivision road improvements in townships are done through a process called Special Assessment District (SAD). SAD is a designated area where RCOC is requested to levy an assessment in exchange for road rehabilitation services. The law that authorizes road commissions SADs was adopted by the Michigan Legislature in 1931 in the form of Public Act 246.

Union Lake Road Culvert Replacement
The Union Lake Road culvert between Wise and Commerce roads was scheduled to be replaced in 2021. A major utility conflict has pushed the project to 2022.

Waldon Road, Baldwin to Clintonville Road
Starting late in 2022, utility relocation along Waldon Road from Baldwin to Clintonville Road will start to prepare for a multiyear project. Phase I construction will start in 2023. Phase 2 construction will take place in 2024. Work includes gravel road paving, road realignment, culvert replacements and a roundabout at the Waldon Road/Clintonville Road intersection.

Walton Blvd., Sashabaw to Clintonville Road
Walton Boulevard from east of Sashabaw Road to Clintonville Road will be rehabilitated. The 1.24 mile project includes pavement removal, asphalt paving, traffic signal upgrades and some removal and replacement of curbs and gutters.
