The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) on Wednesday, Sept. 14, will host a public information meeting about the planned 2017 paving of Napier Road from 9 Mile to 10 Mile and the 10 Mile/Napier Road intersection improvements on the Novi/Lyon Township border.
The public meeting is from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at the Novi Public Library East Meeting Room, 45255 West 10 Mile Road in Novi. The meeting with be an open-house format -- there will be no formal presentations. RCOC staff will be present to answer questions throughout the public meeting.
The approximately $5 million project is funded with a mix of federal and local dollars. Local funding is shared by RCOC, Lyon Township and the City of Novi.
The project includes:
• Paving the gravel section of Napier Road from 9 Mile to just north of 10 Mile Road
• Reconstruction of 10 Mile Road from Cooperwood Drive to Napavine Drive
• Significant reduction of a hill on 10 Mile to improve sight distance and enhance safety
• Construction of a roundabout at the Napier/10 Mile intersection
Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2017. During construction, both Napier and 10 Mile roads will be closed; however, residential and business access will be maintained.
The initial focus of the project will be on the 10 Mile/Napier intersection, with the goal of opening 10 Mile as quickly as possible.
The detour for the Napier Road closure will be Grand River Avenue to Beck Road to 8 Mile Road and back to Napier and vice versa.
The detour for the 10 Mile Road closure will be Griswold Road to 8 Mile Road to Beck Road and back to 10 Mile Road and vice versa.
The detours are suggested for through traffic and trucks; individuals may seek alternate routes.
