The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) has approved delaying the closure of Clarkston Road from Sashabaw Road to Flemings Lake Road in Independence Township until Tuesday, Aug. 10. The road was originally expected to close on Aug. 4; however, the closure has been delayed by the contractor.
Flemings Lake and Walters roads, from Clarkston Road to Waldon Road, will also remain closed until Aug. 10. Both roads are part of the Clarkston Road detour and will reopen prior to closing Clarkston Road.
Access to homes and businesses along Clarkston Road in the construction zone will be maintained throughout the work. The detour for through traffic is Flemings Lake Road to Walters Road to Waldon Road, back to Clarkston Road and vice versa.
The resurfacing work is funded mainly through an Independence Township road millage. The closure is necessary for the removal of the current pavement, grading/gravel work on the road’s base and paving with asphalt.
The contractor for the project is Cadillac Asphalt of Farmington Hills. This section of Clarkston Road carries approximately 5,570 vehicles daily.
