[ARCHIVED] RCOC TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING FOR PROPOSED UPDATED PERMIT FEES AND SPECIFICATIONS

Beverly Hills, MI — The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) will conduct a public hearing Wednesday, June 23, at 10 a.m. to receive public input on proposed changes to permit specifications and fees.

Anyone interested can attend the public hearing in person or via telephone conference call. The hearing will be held at the Road Commission’s Paul Van Roekel Service Center, 2420 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford Township 48328 (at County Center Drive West, just west of the Oakland County government campus). If you plan to attend in person, call 877-858-4804 for COVID-19 protocols.

To participate via conference call, dial 1-800-337-8118 and then enter conference ID code 607 490 123# (must include the “#” symbol). A copy of the proposed revised permit specifications and fee schedule are available by e-mailing the Road Commission at dcsmail@rcoc.org or by calling RCOC at 877-858-4804.

Permits are required for any commercial or residential work that touches or impacts a Road Commission road or road right of way. This includes items such as constructing a new driveway, reconstructing a driveway, installing a utility in a road right of way, landscaping within the road right of way, etc.

“It has been 15 or more years since we last revised the fee schedule for our permits,” stated RCOC Managing Director Dennis Kolar. “These fees are only intended to cover our costs for issuing the permits, but over the last 15 years, some of our costs have increased. We do not make a profit on these fees.”

Also at the hearing, the Road Commission will discuss a proposal to utilize the Oxcart company to allow customers to purchase RCOC permits online as well as review updates to specifications to recognize all types of work currently taking place in the road right of way. “Oxcart offers a service that provides increased convenience to our customers,” Kolar said. “Our goal is to make the permit process as easy as possible for our customers.”
