The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) and West Bloomfield Township expect to begin construction on the Maple/Orchard Lake Road intersection on Aug.1.
During construction, one lane in each direction will remain open to traffic. The center left-turn lane will be open on a limited basis throughout construction. Motorists should expect delays.
The $3.35 million project is mostly funded by West Bloomfield Township with RCOC providing construction engineering services. The project includes:
• Intersection widening including dual left-turn lanes on the south and east intersection (northbound and eastbound) approaches
• Traffic-signal upgrade
• New asphalt pavement
• Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant pedestrian crosswalks
• Decorative lighting and poles
The contractor for the project is Dan’s Excavating of Shelby Township. The project is expected to conclude in late November.
The Maple/Orchard Lake Road intersection carries approximately 60,000 vehicles daily.
