[ARCHIVED] TRAFFIC EXPECTED TO BE SHIFTED TO SOUTH SIDE OF 12 MILE RD FROM GREENFIELD TO COOLIDGE ON AUG. 31

Traffic Alert Sign

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects its contractor to switch traffic from the north side of 12 Mile Road between Coolidge Highway and Greenfield Road in Berkley to the south side of the road this Monday, Aug. 31, weather permitting.

The road has been under construction since June 1, with the contractor resurfacing the eastbound lanes (the southern side of the road), while the west bound lanes were open to two-way traffic. Weather permitting, on Monday, the contractor will move two-way traffic to the newly paved eastbound lanes and close the west bound lanes to begin resurfacing them.

Pedestrian and business access will be maintained throughout the project.

The approximately $2.8 million project is 80 percent funded with federal dollars with the remaining costs shared by the City of Berkley, RCOC and Oakland County general government (through the Tri-Party Program).

The 1.05-mile project includes:

  • Milling (removing existing surface) and paving with three inches of asphalt
  • More extensive repairs of 12 Mile Road between Greenfield Road and Ellwood Drive (complete)
  • Reconstruction of side-street approaches to 12 Mile Road (residential access maintained)
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant pedestrian crosswalks
  • Pedestrian-signal upgrades
  • New curbs and gutters
  • Drainage improvements
  • New signs and pavement markings

The project is expected to be complete in mid to late October. The contractor for the project is Pro-Line Asphalt of Washington Township.

This section of 12 Mile Road carries approximately 15,500 vehicles per day. For more information on the 12 Mile project, visit: http://www.rcocweb.org/537/12-Mile-Road-Greenfield-to-Coolidge.

This includes continuing to ask the public to contact the agency remotely and to refrain from talking with Road Commission workers and contractors in person, including when they are working on or near the roads.

Instead, anyone can contact RCOC through any of the following methods:
