[ARCHIVED] RCOC SPOT-RESURFACING PROGAM EXPECTED TO START ON APR. 20

The Road Commission of Oakland County (RCOC) expects to start its 2020 Spot-Resurfacing Program on April 20 with work on Crescent Lake Road between Highland Road (M-59) and Elizabeth Lake Road in Waterford Township.

Spot resurfacing is the milling (grinding off the top layer of pavement) and patching of relatively small areas of pavement on heavier-traveled roads. The contractor for the program, Florence Cement of Shelby Township, will mill sections of roads throughout Oakland County and pave those areas with 2 to 2.5 inches of new asphalt.

The areas selected are identified by RCOC maintenance staff. Approximately 130 road sections spread across the county will receive this treatment – though the number of locations could increase or decrease depending on funding and costs.

The work is done while keeping the roads open to traffic -- controlled by flaggers when necessary. Motorists should expect some delays.

“The Spot Resurfacing Program is a great way to get the biggest bang for our buck,” explained RCOC Managing Director Dennis Kolar. “It allows us to repair the worst sections of roads that are otherwise in relatively good shape, saving us the cost of resurfacing areas that don’t need it.”

As a reminder, RCOC has taken a number of steps to protect employees from coming into contact with people who may be infected with the coronavirus (COVID-19). This includes continuing to ask the public to contact the agency remotely and to refrain from talking with Road Commission workers and contractors in person, including when they are working on or near the roads.

Instead, anyone can contact RCOC through any of the following methods:

  • Online at www.rcocweb.org
  • By telephone at 877-858-4804 (Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.to 4:15 p.m.)
  • Via e-mail at dcsmail@rcoc.org
  • Via fax at 248-338-0675
  • Through the RCOC app available for free through the Apple and Google stores
