The Road Commission of Oakland County (RCOC) expects to close Maple Road at Middlebelt Road in West Bloomfield Township on Monday, March 30, for continued construction work on the roundabout.
Construction is expected to be completed and Maple Road re-opened in early June; however, the anticipated opening date is fluid and could change based on weather and potential impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Northbound and southbound Middlebelt Road at Maple Road will remain open to traffic; however, access to eastbound and westbound Maple Road will be closed.
The detour for Maple Road traffic east or west of Middlebelt Road is Inkster Road to Walnut Lake Road to Orchard Lake Road and back to Maple Road and vice versa.
The Maple/Middlebelt roundabout was mostly constructed last year. However, some work remains to be completed this year, including:
- Concrete work on the center island
- Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalks and crosswalks
- Installation of High-intensity Activated crossWalK (HAWK) beacons at the pedestrian crossings
- Street lighting and behind-the-curb restoration of landscaping
The Maple/Middlebelt intersection carries approximately 33,000 vehicles per day.
