DIXBORO ROAD CONSTRUCTION BETWEEN 8 MILE AND 9 MILE ROADS SET TO BEGIN OCT. 1; ROAD WILL CLOSE TO THROUGH TRAFFIC

Beverly Hills, MI— The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects to close Dixboro Road between 8 Mile and 9 Mile roads on the border of Lyon Township, Green Oak Township and the City of South Lyon beginning Oct. 1 for culvert replacement and excavation of poor soils. The work is being done in preparation for paving the road beginning in the spring of 2020.

Residential and Volunteer Park traffic will be maintained throughout the project; however, the soil excavation on three sections of the road will shift Dixboro Road access points to either 8 Mile or 9 Mile Road. Signs will direct traffic.

The detour for through traffic will be 9 Mile Road to Pontiac Trail to 8 Mile Road, back to Dixboro Road and vice versa.

The approximately $3.5 million project is eighty percent federally funded with the remaining portion shared by RCOC, Lyon Township, South Lyon, Green Oak Township and Oakland County general government through the Tri-Party Program.

The project includes:

  • Paving this one-mile section of gravel road with asphalt (2020)
  • Replacing twin culverts under the road (2019)
  • Improved drainage (2020)
  • Some curb and gutter installation (2020)

The 2019 work is expected be completed in early December with the road fully opening to traffic until work begins on paving in the spring of 2020.

Dixboro Road carries approximately 630 vehicles daily. The contractor for the project is Dan’s Excavating of Shelby Township.
