MAPLE ROAD & MIDDLEBELT ROAD INTERSECTION IN WEST BLOOMFIELD TWP. EXPECTED TO CLOSE SEPT. 14 FOR ROUNDABOUT CONSTRUCTION
Beverly Hills, MI – The Road Commission of Oakland County (RCOC) expects to close the Maple Road/Middlebelt Road intersection in West Bloomfield Township on Saturday, Sept. 14, to begin reconstruction of the intersection as a roundabout. Construction is expected to be completed in late fall.
Maple Road remains closed just east of Middlebelt as work continues on the replacement of the culvert carrying the Rouge River under Maple Road. That project is expected to be completed in late September.
While both the intersection and Maple Road at the culvert to the east are closed, residents of homes located immediately east of the Maple/Middlebelt intersection but west of the culvert will have access by using the south leg of the Maple/Middlebelt intersection until the culvert construction is complete.
The detour route for Maple Road through traffic while the Maple/Middlebelt intersection is closed for the roundabout construction is Inkster Road to 14 Mile Road to Northwestern Highway to Orchard Lake Road, back to Maple Road and vice versa and vice versa. The detour route for Middlebelt Road through traffic while the intersection is closed is 14 Mile Road to Northwestern Highway to Orchard Lake Road to Walnut Lake Road, back to Middlebelt Road and vice versa.
The Maple Road and Middlebelt Road intersection carries approximately 31,000 vehicles per day.
Additionally, the public can view the work progress at the culvert project by viewing RCOC’s work zone camera, which captures images of the intersection construction every 15 minutes.
