The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects to begin simple resurfacing work on Dixie Highway from Oakhill Road to I-75 (the northern county line) in the communities of Springfield, Groveland and Holly townships on Monday, July 22.
The road will remain open to traffic; however, motorists can expect delays.
During stage one of construction, the contractor for the project, Ace-Saginaw Paving of Flint, will work on the north half of project, from Grange Hall Road to I-75, in order to complete the paving by Aug. 18 when the Michigan Renaissance Festival opens along this section of Dixie Highway.
Stage two, from Grange Hall Road to Oakhill Road, will begin Aug. 19 and be completed by mid-September. During this work, there will be lane closures from Buckell Lake Road to Tindall Road for drainage work followed by new guardrail installation. Two-way traffic will be maintained.
The approximately $2.6 million project is funded by RCOC and federal road dollars purchased at a reduced rate from another county road agency in Michigan.
The 7.63-mile project includes:
- Milling sections of the road
- Paving with asphalt
- Drainage improvements between Buckell Lake and Tindall roads
- Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant pedestrian crosswalks on Grange Hall Road at Dixie Hwy.
- New guardrail, signage and pavement markings
