The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in cooperation with the City of Novi, expects to begin reconstruction of the Novi Road/12 Mile Road intersection on Monday, June 17.
The project is expected to be complete in mid-August.
During the first phase of construction, Novi Road traffic will be unable to travel through the intersection and will need to turn east or west on 12 Mile Road. However, traffic can use the 12 Mile Road crossovers to then head back to Novi Road and continue in the original direction.
During phase two, both northbound and southbound Novi Road will be closed at 12 Mile for reconstruction of the intersection approaches. The date for the phase-two closure will be announced soon.
One lane of 12 Mile Road in each direction will remain open throughout the project. Business access will be maintained at all times.
The approximately $1.1 million project is funded by RCOC and the City of Novi. The project includes:
- Removal and replacement of concrete at the intersection, including the northbound and southbound Novi Road approaches at 12 Mile Road
- Reconstruction of the 12 Mile Road turnaround just west of Novi Road
- Drainage improvements
- Upgraded pedestrian-crossing signals
- Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant crosswalks and sidewalks
The Novi/12 Mile Road intersection carries approximately 37,000 vehicles daily. The contractor for the project is Mark Anthony Contracting of Milford.
