The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects to resume work on Opdyke Road between M-59 and Perry Street in Auburn Hills and Pontiac on April 22.
The work will include watermain installation, resurfacing the road, construction of a pedestrian pathway from Auburn Road to I-75 and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant crosswalks and bus stops.
The project is expected to be completed by late June.
Two-way traffic will be maintained between M-59 and Perry Road during the resurfacing and watermain work. Access to businesses within the project area will be maintained at all times.
This work is a continuation of a project begun last year. Last year, the Opdyke Road bridge over the Clinton River was replaced in addition to road resurfacing from Auburn Road to M-59.
The project is expected to cost approximately $10.9 million, with $3.1 million covered by federal funding. The City of Auburn Hills is paying for the new watermains.
Approximately $2.8 million of the project costs will be paid for through the Local Bridge Program, which is a combination of state and federal dollars, and the remainder will be shared by RCOC, the two cities and Oakland County general government (through the Tri-Party Program).
Dan’s Excavating of Shelby Township is the contractor for the project.
