[ARCHIVED] SOUTH HALF OF SOUTH HILL RD TO CLOSE AT GRAND RIVER AVE ON SEPT. 10 FOR INTERSECTION IMPROVEMEMENTS

Grand River sign for intersection improvements

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects to close the south half of South Hills Road at the intersection with Grand River Avenue in Lyon Township for intersection improvements beginning Monday, Sept. 10. The closure is expected to last until early November.

Eastbound and westbound Grand River Avenue will remain open to traffic. Additionally, the north side of the Grand River Avenue intersection at South Hill will remain open; however, the south half of the Grand River intersection at South Hill will fully close to traffic.

During the closure, the detour route for South Hill Road is 12 Mile Road to Haas Road to Grand River Avenue, back to South Hill Road and vice versa.

The approximately $1.8 million project is funded through the state’s Transportation Economic Development Fund (TEDF), Lyon Township and RCOC.

The project includes:

  • Adding left- and right-turn lanes on Grand River Avenue and South Hill (south half only)
  • Asphalt paving of the intersection
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant crosswalks
  • Storm sewer improvements
  • Traffic signal installation (will take place in the Spring of 2019)

South Hill Road south of Grand River carries approximately 500 vehicles per day.

The contractor for this project is Fonson Company Inc. of Brighton.
