A work zone camera is active to provide the public with a real-time view of the replacement of the Opdyke Road bridge over the Clinton River in Pontiac and Auburn Hills. The camera will operate daily, shooting a photo every 15 minutes between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Viewers can watch the progress of bridge replacement here or on the helpful links menu at www.rcocweb.org. Visitors can view photos of the project or a time-lapse series that combines all photos taken in succession. RCOC will produce a compilation of all photos following the completion of the project.
The bridge replacement is part of a larger project on Opdyke Road from Auburn Road to Perry Street in Auburn Hills and Pontiac that began on June 18.
In addition to the bridge replacement, Opdyke Road will be resurfaced along with Americans with Disabilities Act compliant sidewalk ramps and bus stops. A pedestrian path from Auburn Road to I-75 will also be constructed. Additionally, water main work and culvert repairs are included in the project.
Opdyke Road is closed Auburn Road and M-59 throughout the project so the bridge over the Clinton River can be replaced. The detour route is Auburn Road to Martin Luther King Hwy. to Featherstone Road, back to Opdyke Road and vice versa. Two-way traffic will be maintained between M-59 and Perry Road during the resurfacing and watermain work. Access to businesses within the project area will be maintained at all times.
The project is expected to cost approximately $10.9 million, with $3.1 million covered by federal funding. The City of Auburn Hills will pay for the new watermains. Approximately $2.8 million will be paid for through the Local Bridge Program, which is a combination of state and federal dollars, and the remainder will be shared by RCOC, the two cities and Oakland County general government (through the Tri-Party Program).
