The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) has extended the annual spring Adopt-A-Road clean-up through April 29 due to weather. The original dates were April 14-22.
“RCOC greatly appreciates volunteer groups that have adopted a road segment and continue do a fantastic job of cleaning these areas,” stated RCOC Chairman Eric S. Wilson. Cleanup dates for 2018 are: April 14-29, July 14-22 and Sept. 22-30.
Any group interested in adopting a paved county road section should call the RCOC Permits Division at 248-858-4891 or send an email to: adoptaroad@rcoc.org. Interested organizations will receive orange safety vests, training and garbage bags.
Additionally, RCOC will erect Adopt-A-Road signs at both ends of the designated road sections recognizing the volunteer groups responsible for sections. Road segments are approved by the RCOC Board of Road Commissioners.
Participating groups are reminded to call the RCOC Permits Division to arrange pick up of litter bags after the clean-up. Additionally, RCOC relies on groups to call and verify that contact information is current. Groups needing additional garbage bags or orange vests can also call the Permits Division.
Motorists can help the effort by slowing down when volunteers are picking up trash along approximately 453 miles of roadways and by joining RCOC in reminding others not to litter.
