Beverly Hills, MI – The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) will host a public information meeting Wednesday, May 4, for the planned resurfacing of Maple Road from Drake Road to Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield Township. The project is planned take place over a two-year period, this year and next year.

The public meeting is from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at Orchard Lake Middle School, 6000 Orchard Lake Road, in West Bloomfield Township. The meeting with be an open-house format -- there will be no formal presentations. RCOC staff will be present to answer questions throughout the public meeting.

The approximately $6.4 million project is funded with a mix of federal and local dollars. Local funding is shared by RCOC, West Bloomfield Township and Oakland County general government (through the Tri-Party Program).

The 1.8 mile project includes:
• Rehabilitation and resurfacing of Maple Road from Drake to Orchard Lake Road
• Addition of a continuous center, left-turn lane
• Right-turn lane extensions in several areas
• Paved shoulder widenings
• Improved drainage
• Curb and gutter installation
• Traffic signal modernization
• Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant pedestrian crosswalks
• Work at the Farmington/Maple Road roundabout

The first phase of the Maple Road project, covering the section from Farmington to Drake, is expected to begin in the summer of 2016 and conclude late in 2016. During the work, this section of Maple Road will be closed to eastbound traffic but open for westbound traffic (to provide access to Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital). This phase also includes work to be done on the Farmington/Maple roundabout. Access to businesses and homes within the project area will be maintained throughout the project.

During the second phase, in 2017, the section of Maple between Farmington and Orchard Lake roads will be closed for eastbound traffic but open for westbound traffic.

The detour route for eastbound traffic during both phases will be Walnut Lake Road.
