The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects to close Snell Road between Sheldon and Mt. Vernon roads in Oakland and Washington townships beginning on Monday, Oct. 16 October 25.
The closure is necessary to replace a culvert that carries the McClure Drain under the road. The closure straddles the Oakland County/Macomb County border.
The section of Snell will remain closed to through traffic until approximately Nov. 7 mid-November.
The through-traffic detour route is Sheldon Road to Gunn Road to Mt. Vernon Road, back to Snell Road and vice versa.
The $405,000 project is funded by RCOC.
The project includes:
- Removal and replacement of the existing culvert
- Construction of new head and wing walls for the culvert
- Guardrail installation
- Hot-mix asphalt paving over the new culvert
The contractor for the project is Toebe Construction of Wixom. This section of Snell Road carries approximately 1,400 vehicles daily.
