The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) will begin reconstructing the 10 Mile Road/Napier Road intersection as a modern roundabout and reconstructing 10 Mile Road from Copperwood to Nepavine Drive on the Novi/Lyon Township border on Wednesday, July 5.
The 10 Mile/Napier intersection and 10 Mile Road from Copperwood to Nepavine Drive will close to traffic from July 17 through mid-October. The detour will be Griswold Road to 8 Mile Road to Novi Road, back to 10 Mile Road vice versa.
An access route to all homes and businesses in the area will be maintained at all times. At least one access point to the Enclave and Rathmor Park subdivisions will remain open at all times, while the second entrance to each subdivision is under construction.
The approximately $6.3 million project is funded with a mix of federal and local dollars. Local funding is shared by RCOC, Lyon Township and the City of Novi.
The project includes:
- Reconstruction of 10 Mile Road from Copperwood Drive to Nepavine Drive
- Significant reduction of a hill on 10 Mile west of Napier to improve sight distance and enhance safety
- Construction of a roundabout at the Napier/10 Mile intersection
- Paving the gravel section of Napier Road from 9 Mile to 10 Mile Road -- scheduled for 2018
The prime contractor for the project is Dan’s Excavating of Shelby Township. The first phase of the project is expected to conclude mid-November; however, the road should fully reopen approximately mid-October.
The paving of Napier Road from 9 Mile to 10 Mile Road is expected to begin in the spring of 2018.
The detours are suggested for through traffic and trucks; individuals may seek alternate routes.
