[ARCHIVED] RCOC ADDS THREE ADDITIONAL PROJECTS TO 2017 PRESERVATION OVERLAY PROGRAM

DSC_0791

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) continues to move full-steam ahead on improving roads throughout Oakland County by adding three additional projects to the 2017 Preservation Overlay program list.

Through budget savings and additional revenue from the recent increase in Michigan’s gas tax and vehicle-registration fees, RCOC has effectively worked with the program’s contractor, Ajax Paving, to add four miles of additional roads to program. The Preservation Overlay program involves milling and resurfacing roads that are in moderately good condition in order to extend the life of the road. The roads are resurfaced with approximately two inches of asphalt.

The following road segments have been added:

  • Quarton Road from Franklin Road to Telegraph (US 24) in Bloomfield Township
  • Baldwin Road from Seymour Lake Road (southern intersection) to Indianwood Road on the Brandon Twp./Oxford Twp. and Independence Twp./Orion Twp. borders
  • Wyoming Avenue from 8 Mile Road to Northend Avenue in Royal Oak Township

The Quarton and Baldwin projects are expected to start Tuesday, June 27 and be completed by the end of next week. The work is weather-dependent and the schedule could change.   A start date for the Wyoming project has not yet been set.

The roads will remain open to traffic during construction and under flag control in work zone areas.    RCOC’s Preservation Overlay program will improve more than 40 miles of roads in 2017.
