The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), on Wednesday, May 24, will host a public information meeting about the planned 2017 10 Mile/Napier Road intersection improvements on the Novi/Lyon Township border and 2018 paving of Napier Road from 9 Mile to 10 Mile Road.
The public meeting is from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at the Gateway Banquet Quarters in the Novi Civic Center, 45715 West 10 Mile Road in Novi. The meeting will be an open-house format -- there will be no formal presentations. RCOC staff will be present to answer questions throughout the public meeting.
The approximately $6.3 million project is funded with a mix of federal and local dollars. Local funding is shared by RCOC, Lyon Township and the City of Novi.
The project includes:
- Reconstruction of 10 Mile Road from Copperwood Drive to Nepavine Drive
- Significant reduction of a hill on 10 Mile to improve sight distance and enhance safety
- Construction of a roundabout at the Napier/10 Mile intersection
- Paving the gravel section of Napier Road from 9 Mile to 10 Mile Road -- scheduled for 2018
Construction on 10 Mile Road including the Napier/10 Mile intersection is expected to begin in late summer of 2017 and be completed in late fall of 2017. The Napier/10 Mile intersection and 10 Mile from Copperwood to Nepavine Drive will close to through traffic.
Access to all homes and businesses in the area will be maintained at all times. At least one access point to the Enclave and Rathmor Park subdivisions will remain open at all times, while the second entrance to each subdivision is under construction.
The detour for the 10 Mile Road closure will be Griswold Road to 8 Mile Road to Beck Road and back to 10 Mile Road and vice versa. The detour route for Napier Road traffic will be Grand River to Novi Road to 8 Mile Road and back to Napier and vice versa.
The gravel road paving on Napier Road from 9 Mile to 10 Mile road will take place in 2018. The road will be closed to through traffic with the closure date to be announced.
The detours are suggested for through traffic and trucks; individuals may seek alternate routes.
