The Road Commission for
Oakland County (RCOC) and West Bloomfield Township this morning (Tuesday, Nov.
29) marked the completion of the Maple Road/Orchard Lake Road intersection
widening project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The intersection has been under construction since July.
The $3.35 million project was primarily funded by West Bloomfield Township with
RCOC providing construction engineering services.
The
project included:
·
The addition of dual left-turn lanes on
the northbound and westbound approaches
·
Traffic-signal modifications
·
New asphalt pavement
·
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant
pedestrian crosswalks
·
Decorative lighting and poles
The
contractor for the project was Dan’s Excavating of Shelby Township. Some
landscaping restoration work and other items must yet be completed, but all
traffic lanes are now open.
“This
is an important improvement to the Orchard Lake corridor and to West Bloomfield
Township,” noted RCOC Chairman Ron Fowkes. “We greatly appreciate the
township’s participation in this project. This has been a great partnership.”
West Bloomfield Township Supervisor Steve Kaplan concurred. “West Bloomfield Township is elated over the professionalism
and competence of the Road Commission for Oakland County,” Kaplan said. “The
road project enhances the safety and appearance of the busy Maple and Orchard
Lake intersection.”
