The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) plans to close Grand River Avenue from Kent Lake Road to Kensington Blvd. in Lyon Township to replace a culvert under the road starting Monday, Aug. 7.
The road will close for approximately 21 days. Residential and business access will be maintained east and west of the culvert work. The Road Commission has been monitoring the deteriorating culvert under the road for several years and determined that it could not wait another year to replace it.
During the closure, the detour is Kent Lake Road to Silver Lake Road/Pontiac Trail to New Hudson Drive, back to Grand River Avenue and vice versa.
The project includes:
- Removal of the existing culvert.
- Replacing the old structure with a reinforced-concrete culvert.
- Paving the vicinity of the culvert with asphalt.
- Drainage improvements.
- New guardrail, pavement markings and signs.
The project is expected to cost approximately $350,000. The contractor for the project is Springline Excavating LLC of Farmington Hills.
This section of Grand River Avenue carries approximately 7,400 vehicles daily.
