The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) in partnership with Brandon Township, will conduct a public information meeting Tuesday, Oct. 4, to share information about the planned improvement project at the Oakwood Road/Hadley Road intersection.

The meeting will be conducted at Oakwood Elementary School, 2839 Oakwood Road in Brandon Twp. (just east of the intersection). It will run from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The meeting will be open-house format; there will not be a formal presentation. Anyone interested can stop by at any time during the meeting to review plans and/or speak with an RCOC representative.

            The project will include:

· Extending the Oakwood Road center left-turn lane from Oakwood Elementary school west through the intersection.

· Replacing the culvert under the intersection.

· Widening the Oakwood Road shoulders to six feet.

· Adding curbs and gutters throughout the intersection.

· Improving the storm sewer and drainage at the intersection.

  • Extend pavement on south side of intersection to improve traction.

Utility work will be done in anticipation of the project this fall and winter (fall of 2022, winter 2022-23). Road Construction will start in the summer of 2023 and be completed in the fall. During the road construction phase, the intersection will be closed. Access to all homes and businesses in the area of the intersection will be maintained at all times.

During the closure, the detour route for Oakwood traffic will be Baldwin Road to Seymour Lake Road to Ortonville Road (M-15) and back to Oakwood Road and vice versa. The detour for Hadley Road traffic will be Seymour Lake Road to Ortonville Road (M-15) to Hegel Road and back to Hadley Road and vice versa.

The project is expected to cost approximately $1.7 million and will be paid for with a combination of federal funds and RCOC dollars.
