The Road Commission for Oakland County will close Oxbow Lake Road between Cedar Island and Elizabeth Lake roads in White Lake Township starting Sept. 5 for the replacement of the culvert that carries the Huron River under the road.
The road will be closed through mid-November. The approximately $1.36 million project will include:
- Removal and replacement of the culvert with an aluminum box culvert.
- Installation of new guardrail.
- Repaving with asphalt in the vicinity of the culvert.
The detour route for the project will be Cooley Lake Road to Bogie Lake Road to Highland Road (M-59) to Teggerdine Road to Elizabeth Lake Road back to Oxbow Lake Road and vice versa.
During the closure, the Cedar Island Lake boat ramp, located north of the culvert (south of Elizabeth Lake Road), will be accessible from the north. Cedar Island Lake water levels will not be impacted by the project.
This portion of Oxbow Lake Road carries approximately 8,650 vehicles daily. The contractor for the project is Superior Contracting Group of Almont, MI.
