RESURFACING WORK ON WALTON BLVD., CLINTONVILLE RD. TO THE PONTIAC CITY BORDER, STARTS JUNE 6
The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with Waterford Township, will begin resurfacing work on Walton Blvd. from Clintonville Road to the Pontiac city border starting Tuesday, June 6.
During construction, two-way traffic will be maintained on Walton Blvd.
Starting approximately July 6, Silver Lake Road will close at Walton Blvd. for intersection construction. The intersection work is expected to last approximately 21 days. The detours during the closure are as follows:
• Vehicles traveling north from Silver Lake Road to Walton Blvd.: The detour is Dixie Highway to Sashabaw Road to Walton Blvd.
• Vehicles traveling south from Walton Blvd. to Silver Lake Road: the detour is Telegraph Road to Dixie Highway to Silver Lake Road.
The $4.95 million project is mainly paid for with federal funds and matching dollars from RCOC, Waterford Township and Oakland County general government (through the Tri-Party Program).
The 1.32-mile project includes:
• Removing the existing pavement and repaving Walton Blvd. from Clintonville Road to the Pontiac city border with asphalt.
• Replacing some curbs and gutters.
• Replacing the traffic signal at the Walton Blvd./Silver Lake Road intersection. The new signal will include backplates to improve visibility.
• Upgrading pedestrian crosswalks to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Improving side-street approaches.
The contractor for the project is Florence Cement of Shelby Township. This section of Walton Blvd. carries approximately 19,600 vehicles daily.
Project completion is expected approximately mid-November.
