CONSTRUCTION ON 14 MILE RD, BARRINGTON TO DEQUINDRE RD EXPECTED TO START MAR. 6
The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with the cities of Troy and Madison Heights, expects to start construction on 14 Mile Road, Barrington Road to Dequindre Road, on Monday, March 6.
Construction will begin with watermain work on 14 Mile Road at Minnesota Street just west of Dequindre Road. During the watermain work, 14 Mile Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction from west of Dequindre Road to just west of Minnesota Street.
Additionally, Minnesota Street will be closed at 14 Mile Road. Business access on Minnesota Street will be maintained from Elliot Avenue. This segment of work is expected to last four to six weeks.
The project is expected to cost approximately $5.5 million and is mostly funded with federal dollars and additional contributions from Madison Heights, Troy and RCOC.
The project includes:
• Removal of the existing pavement.
• Paving with asphalt.
• Concrete repairs.
• Reconstruction of some areas of 14 Mile Road.
• Repairs to curbs and gutters.
• Minor drainage improvements.
• Improvements to crosswalks to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
• Traffic signal upgrades.
• New signs and pavement markings.
During the work, business access will be maintained. The work is expected to be completed by mid-August.
The contractor for the project is Florence Cement of Shelby Township. This segment of 14 Mile Road carries approximately 52,000 vehicles daily.
