The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with the City of Farmington Hills, will resurface 12 Mile Road between Farmington Road and Orchard Lake Road starting Monday, Aug. 23.
During construction one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open on 12 Mile Road at all times. Access to businesses and homes will also be maintained throughout the project. The project is expected to be completed in early November, except for some traffic-signal work which will conclude next year.
The project is expected to cost approximately $1.6 million. Eighty percent of the cost will be paid for with federal funds. The remainder of the costs will be shared by RCOC and the City of Farmington Hills.
This project includes:
• Milling (removing existing surface) and paving with three inches of asphalt
• Repair sections of poor concrete
• Milling and resurfacing some side-street approaches to 12 Mile Road
• Constructing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant pedestrian crosswalks
• Repairing curbs and gutters
• Upgrading traffic and pedestrian-crosswalk signals
• New traffic signs and pavement markings
The contractor for this project is Ajax Paving of Troy. This section of 12 Mile Road carries
approximately 32,500 vehicles per day.
RCOC Managing Director Dennis Kolar asked for motorists’, residents’ and businesses’ patience during the work. “We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to improve the road,” he stated. “We also ask that motorists please use caution while driving through the construction zone. Please refrain from distractions such as texting or checking your phone while you are driving.”
