Dutton Road Bridge Replacement over the Paint Creek


In partnership with Rochester Hills and Oakland Township, the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) hosted a public meeting for the Dutton Road bridge replacement project between the Livernois Road intersections,  expected to take place in 2023.   The public meeting was held on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Rochester Adams High School cafeteria, 3200 West Tienken Road, Rochester Hills.  The meeting was open house format with no formal presentation. RCOC staff was present to answer questions.

Project Information:

LOCATION:  Dutton Road, just east of Livernois Road

COMMUNITIES: Oakland Township and Rochester Hills 

The approximately $2.6 million dollar project is mostly paid for with federal funding.  The remaining dollars will come from the City of Rochester Hills and the RCOC. 

The project includes:

  • Full bridge removal and replacement (just east of Livernois Road).
  • Wider bridge to accommodate pedestrians and environmental concerns.
  • Asphalt paving over the vicinity of the bridge.
  • Shoulder paving on the north side of Dutton Road that will connect the existing Paint Creek Trail parking lot to the trail. 
  • Installation of curbs and gutters.
  • New guardrail.
  • Utility relocation (expected in the winter and spring of 2023).
  • Tree removal.

Contractor/Timeframe/Road Closure information:

CONTRACTOR: To Be Announced (TBA)

START DATE:  July 2023,  TBA for bridge and road work

END:  November of 2023, TBA 

ROAD CLOSURE:  Yes, Dutton Road will be fully closed to through traffic between Livernois Road and Orion Road.  Access to homes will be maintained.  Paint Creek Trail remains mostly accessible east of Paint Creek. There will have a two-day closure in the fall of 2023, with dates to be announced.  

DETOUR:  Brewster Road to Tienken Road to Rochester Road to Orion Road, back to Dutton Road and vice versa.
