The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) will host a public information meeting Tuesday, Oct. 25, for the planned 2017 resurfacing of Maple Road from Drake Road to Haggerty Road in West Bloomfield Township.
The public meeting is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the West Bloomfield Township Public Library, 4600 Walnut Lake Road in West Bloomfield Township. The meeting with be an open-house format -- there will be no formal presentations. RCOC staff will be present to answer questions throughout the public meeting.
The approximately $5.5 million project is funded with a mix of federal and local dollars. Local funding is shared by RCOC and West Bloomfield Township. The project is expected to begin in the spring of 2017.
The 2 mile project includes:• Rehabilitation and resurfacing of Maple Road from Drake to Haggerty Road• Addition of a continuous center left-turn lane• Right-turn lane extensions in several areas• Paved shoulder widenings• Some tree removal at the Halsted/Maple intersection• Improved drainage • Curb and gutter installation• Culvert replacement • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant pedestrian crosswalks
Throughout the project, Maple Road will remain open for eastbound traffic to ensure access to Henry Ford Hospital in West Bloomfield Township; however, there will be a short term closure of the road for culvert replacement. Dates for the closure will be announced.
Westbound traffic will be detoured to 14 Mile Road. Business and residential traffic will be maintained throughout the project.
The second phase of Maple Road between Farmington and Orchard Lake roads will also be under construction beginning spring of 2017. During this phase, this section of Maple Road will be closed for eastbound traffic but open for westbound traffic. The detour for eastbound traffic is Walnut Lake Road.
