Union Lake Road Culvert Replacement

UPDATE: PROJECT HAS BEEN MOVED TO 2022 DUE TO A MAJOR UTILITY CONFLICT; ROAD WILL REOPEN TO TRAFFIC BY THE EVENING OF AUG. 27, 2021.  

PROJECT LIMITS:   Culvert is located between Commerce and Wise roads, over the Hayes Creek (just north of Willow Road)

COMMUNITY:  Commerce Township

FUNDING:  The $778,000 project is funded by the Road Commission for Oakland County. 


PROJECT INCLUDES:

  • Culvert removal and replacement
  • Asphalt paving and new pavement markings over culvert
  • Concrete curbs and gutters
  • New guardrails
  • Upgraded traffic signal at the Willow Road/Union Lake Road intersection
  • Lake level control upgrade

CONTRACTOR:  VIL Construction of Sterling Heights

START DATE:  August 2

END DATE:  Late September.  Project has been moved to 2022 due to a utility conflict. Road will reopen to traffic in late August. Prior to opening the road, the traffic signal at the Union Lake Road/Willow Road intersection needs to be rebuilt. Additionally, the contractor must remove equipment and barricades. The road will need to swept and restriped prior to opening.  

ROAD CLOSURE:  Yes. Residential, business and DNR boat launch access maintained north and south of the culvert. 

DETOUR:  Wise Road to Carroll Lake Road to Commerce Road, back to Union Lake Road and vice versa.
