2021 Proposed Road Improvement Program (RIP) Map
The 2021 Road Improvement Plan map is under construction and will be available soon! Once posted, each road project continues to evolve, and the project list could change. The map will be updated to reflect any changes.

2021 Road Construction Project List
A list of 2021 Road Commission for Oakland County major road construction projects (list is subject to changes). Additional information on preservation overlays (non-federally funded), concrete slab replacements and spot resurfacing lists can be found on the Road Projects page.

Barron Road
Barron Road paving from Grange Hall Road to Groveland Road in Groveland Township is expected to begin in the winter of 2020 with tree removal. Road construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2021.

Concrete Slab Replacement
RCOC is planning concrete slab replacement on several roads throughout Oakland County in 2020.

Cranbrook Road
In 2021, Cranbrook Road from 14 Mile Road to Maple Road will be resurfaced.

High-Friction Surface Treatment
The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) continues to be a leader in safety and will once again use a “high-friction surface treatment” to improve traction on two curves on roads in Oakland County. A list of roads for 2020 projects will be available soon.

Independence Township Road Improvement Millage
In November of 2018, Independence Township voters approved a millage to improve various roads throughout the community. Independence Township and the RCOC are working together on utilizing the millage revenue. Road improvements will begin in 2020.

Joint Repair Program
Road Commission for Oakland County will be repairing joints on several roads throughout Oakland County during 2020. A list of roads schedule for joint repair is listed on the page.

Maple Road, Inkster to Franklin
In 2021, Maple Road from Inkster to Franklin Road will be resurfaced. The project also includes a culvert replacement that will require Maple Road to fully close from Northam Road to Castle Drive. Further details and closure date will be announced in 2021.

Oakhill/Sashabaw Compact Roundabout
RCOC will construct a compact roundabout at the intersection of Oakhill and Sashabaw roads on the Brandon Twp./Independence Twp. border in 2021.

Simple Resurfacing (Preservation Overlays)
Preservation overlays are being done on heavier traveled roads throughout Oakland County. Typically involves placing 2 inches - 2.5 inches of new asphalt. Roads selected have to be in moderately good shape for this process to work.

Spot Resurfacing Program
Spot resurfacing is milling (grinding pavement) and paving sections of heavier traveled roads throughout Oakland County. The asphalt paving is weather, equipment and material dependent. This page provides a list of roads that will receive this heavy maintenance technique.

Subdivision Paving (Special Assessment District)
Subdivision road improvements in townships are done through a process called Special Assessment District (SAD). SAD is a designated area where RCOC is requested to levy an assessment in exchange for road rehabilitation services. The law that authorizes road commissions SADs was adopted by the Michigan Legislature in 1931 in the form of Public Act 246.

Walton Blvd.
In 2021, Walton Blvd from east of Sashabaw Road to Dixie in Waterford Township will be reconstructed.

Permit Work and Short-Term Road Closures
Occasionally, the RCOC will close a segment of road for weekend heavy maintenance work. Typically, this work involves replacing culverts which is weather-dependent work, so the schedule could change.
